Cleveland Peace Action has endorsed the 2009 Poor People's March to
commemorate Martin Luther King's 1963 march on Washington for jobs and freedom and his I Have A Dream speech. From the State office Building, the march will make stops at the County Administration Building, Cleveland City Hall, and the Federal Building with short speeches at invitations to public officials at each stop.

Reverend Tony Minor of the Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry will open the
proceedings with a prayer, followed by opera singer William Marshall who will sing the Black National Anthem. Speakers at the State Office Building will address the failure of the State Budget, and Job Loss in Ohio and Prisons A children's marching band will lead us through Public Square. At the County Building Prisscilla Cooper and others will speak about the deficiency of the Social Safety Net and related problems. A few steps away, among other speakers at the Federal Building, Reverend Charles Hurst of North Presbyterian Church will discuss how War Expenditures could be used for social purposes instead of killing, and Greg Coleridge of American Friends will address the Bank Bailouts. At City Hall various community people will speak out on how they have been hurt by Homelessness and other problems of Poverty, followed by an open mike.

After the March, Bahseer Jones of Radio One will kick off an afternoon of music, rap, poetry and performance art.

Please attend this timely event which will honor Martin Luther King and
address the crises and struggles of so many Clevelanders today.

The Family Connection Center and Stop Targeting Ohio's Poor is
sponsoring the 5th Annual MLK Poor People's March on August 21, 2009.  We will be assembling at the State House on West 6th and Superior,  Cleveland, OH 44115.  If you have question or need additional information please call Prisscilla Cooper 216-481-8950 or Valarie Robinson 321-1677.

We have commemorated this specific march for four years. We rely on various speakers to highlight and give voice to the issues. The march gives us the platform to generate community dialogue across cultures and classes with a diverse set of issues. We have always had the support and co-leadership of white groups thoughout the city. We want to expand our support and increase your voices no matter what the issue, culture, or class you are. Poverty touches everyone in one way or another.

Everyone is welcome.
