Job Posting: Alternatives to Military Recruitment (AMR) Organizer
The AMR Organizer will initiate programs with high school students and their parents in the City of Cleveland in association with the Alternatives to Military Recruitment Committee.
Responsibilities:
• Support grassroots efforts to educate students and parents about the methods used by the military recruiters in high schools and inform them about alternative opportunities for employment and continued education.
• Link peacemaking to reduction of interpersonal and community violence through conflict resolution and peer mediation.
• Organize a Peace Club in the school, invite speakers, show films, lead discussions and role playing
Skills:
• Ability to work independently with inner city high school students.
• Have good organizational and communication skills
• Have computer knowledge including documents and e-mail.
• Be familiar with the Cleveland Municipal School District and awareness of social justice issues.
Experience: Previous work with teenagers, preferably in inner city communities.
Hours: Estimated twenty hours a month, $15.00 per hour; potential additional hours on a monthly basis.
Reporting to: AMR Committee representative on a weekly basis and AMR Committee on a monthly basis.
