Workshop Proposals Invited for 2012 Forum

The second annual Save Our Communities conference is Saturday, April 14. More than 150 people attended our inaugural gathering last year, which focused on shifting our federal and state budget priorities. They heard presentations, participated in workshops, networked with others and strategized on community projects.

You are invited to submit workshop proposals for this year’s conference. We plan to have two types of workshops: issue and skill.

Issue workshops explore issues organizations work on and would like help in promoting. Proposals for issue related workshops should focus on one or more aspect of the general theme of the conference.

Skill workshops address core skills and methods concerning groups and organizations. The focus is on how we can better educate, advocate, and organize- Regardless of the issue. The themes for the proposed workshops are as follows:

Getting Started- How to build and assess a movement from the ground up

Getting the Message Out- Utilizing everything from TV to Facebook

Organizing your Group – Campaign development, recruiting volunteers, making alliances, lobbying, mentoring

Financing your Organization - How to raise money and budget it to fund the work

Making it Work- Holding meetings, conflict resolution, and making sure everyone is on the same page.
Increasing Diversity- How to integrate Race, Gender, and Class into our work

Each skill workshop will have a facilitator with 2-3 other presenters.

Deadline for workshop submissions is Thursday March 15.  Your proposal should include at a minimum: a title, what you propose to cover, and name of the facilitator (see form below). We reserve the right to accept or reject proposals or to combine them based on relevance to the conference’s theme and/or on space limitations.

Two ways to submit:

1.  Use online form

2.  Download this form and send to Alex D’Rain at adrain@afsc.org.

Contact Alex at 330-928-2301 if you have any questions.
