Russia Against the World: Understanding the Russian Worldview will look at the Putin government’s perception of Russia’s role in the world. This includes Russian military interventionism, cyber interference and why Putin is willing to engage in such practices when he knows that Russian participation will be obvious. His discussion will also focus more broadly on Russian aggression in Ukraine and the history which ties this together since World War II, which still plays such an important role in Russian society.

Todd Nelson is an assistant professor in the Political Science Department at Cleveland State University. He has done extensive research in the areas of Russian Politics, Memory Politics, Human Rights, Genocide and Mass Killings.

Dr. Nelson teaches The Politics of Peaceful World Change at CSU. His tales of life in Russia are enlightening as well as colorful, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of Russia politics. With so many issues surrounding attacks on democratic elections, cyber-attacks, and global struggles between autocratic and democratic systems, activists should be aware of how and why Russia operates to protect democracy strategically, peacefully.

His book Bringing Stalin Back In: Memory Politics and the Creation of the Useable Past in Putin’s Russia, published in 2019 by Lexington Books, delves into how Putin is using manipulation to highlight positive aspects of Stalinism through education, to maintain a narrative that justifies Putin’s centralized form of government and Russian greatness.
