It is rather ironic to demand Iran not develop a nuclear weapon when we have an estimated 5,177 nuclear warheads and Israel has an estimated 90 to 400 such weapons. This reflects the Trump administration’s shameful arrogance.
As the late historian and author Howard Zinn, Ph.D., suggested, we ought to dismantle our nuclear weapons as a sign of good faith for Iran. That, of course, will not happen, which means we are again swirling in the downward spiral that characterized unwinnable wars in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.
The best way to support our troops is to bring them home to avoid risking their lives, limbs and psyches in another unwinnable war. But there are billions of dollars to be made by defense contractors. So, the war will proceed, fueled by fearmongering rhetoric from President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Not long ago, we were horrified the Iranian government had killed thousands of protesters. Now Trump’s unconscionable war launched on a “hunch” has simply added to the Iranian death toll, most notably when a Tomahawk missile killed 168, including about 110 students at an Iranian elementary school when the missile hit a military target nearby, as reported by the BBC. Way to go, Cadet Bone Spurs.
