Apartheid Israel’s kidnapping of sailors on international waters is yet another case of Israel crossing the line, in a long list of war crimes and crimes against humanity, that apartheid Israel must answer to.
WHEREAS:
- Nutritional and medical aid delivery to Palestinians in Gaza has been blocked by Israel for many months, causing a humanitarian crisis.
- International humanitarians are compelled to deliver assistance to a starving population denied medical and other humanitarian relief
- Israel intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters, hundreds of miles from Gaza and Israel, which amounts to piracy. This is a new extreme even for Israel, which intercepted the previous flotillas much closer to their own territory.
- Operations of the United Nations Refugee Works Agency (UNRWA) and other international assistance NGOs have been restricted by Israel
- Israel has maintained a military blockade of the Gaza Strip since 2007, and act of war and collective punishment against the Palestinian people
- Two-thirds of the Gaza Strip is now controlled by Israel
- Israel has been labeled an “apartheid state” by the International Court of Justice.
Cleveland Peace Action demands:
- That the U.S. government recognizes that the systematic dismantling of international law by apartheid Israel demands full and total sanctions, including the expulsion of Israeli diplomats and accountability for any US Americans serving in or collaborating with the Israeli military regime.
- That the international community impose a comprehensive arms and energy embargo on Israel, as called for by UN experts and human rights organisations worldwide, and cease all diplomatic and economic normalisation with an apartheid state.
- That the governments of Brazil, Spain, and Sweden, the home or resident states of the detained and released activists, act decisively and urgently to secure their release and/or hold Israel accountable for violations of international law.
- That all people of conscience raise their voices against these crimes. Humanitarian solidarity is not terrorism. Breaking the siege is not a crime. The real crimes are the siege, the genocide, the occupation, and the silence that enables them.
